FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What is Intentful?

It’s a planner that works as a complete life management system for Apple devices. You start with a vision, your AI Coach turns it into milestones, and it flows down into weekly projects and daily habits — synced across your devices and two-way with Apple Calendar and Reminders. It’s built on Kaizen and other proven methods, so it does more than record your week: it helps you design your life and adapt the plan as things change.

Where do I start?

On the Vision Board. Intentful opens there on purpose — start with the end in mind. Picture where you’re headed, let the coach draft a roadmap of milestones, then work it down into your week and day. If you’d rather jump straight to planning your week, you can navigate anywhere you like — there’s just no shortcut that skips the “why.”

Which platforms does it run on?

Intentful is a universal native app for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, built from a single codebase. The Mac and iOS/iPadOS builds are in TestFlight beta as we prepare the App Store launch.

Does it sync across my devices?

Yes. When you’re signed into iCloud, your planner stays in sync across your Mac, iPad, and iPhone through your own private iCloud account. Cross-device sync is included for everyone, not a paid add-on.

Is my data private? Where is it stored?

Your planner data lives on your device and, when you’re signed into iCloud, syncs across your own devices through your private iCloud account — it isn’t stored on our servers and isn’t used for advertising. AI features send only the context needed to answer a request. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How does the AI Coach work?

The coach understands the method behind each part of the planner. You chat in plain language, and it can propose concrete changes across 18 actions — creating projects, scheduling tasks, setting habits, drafting milestones. It’s agentic with a safety rail: every change is an approve-or-decline step, so nothing is written without your consent.

What AI powers the coach and the vision board?

The AI Coach is powered by Anthropic’s Claude (a fast model by default, with an upgrade toggle). Vision Board imagery is generated with OpenAI’s GPT Image 1. With the built-in AI service, requests route through our secure service so you never paste a key; the content of your conversations isn’t logged for training by us.

Can I use my own API key?

Yes. Bring-your-own-key is available as an alternative to the built-in AI service — requests then go directly to the provider you configured, under your own account.

Can it build a project from a document?

Yes. Upload a brief, spec, or meeting notes (PDF, Word, Excel, or text) and the coach reads it and proposes a full project with tasks for you to approve. It’s included.

Is there a free trial, and what’s included?

Yes — every new account starts with a 14-day free trial with full access, then continues as a single plan with every feature included: the Vision Board and image generation, Vision Milestones, the full Weekly Overview and Daily Focus, Projects, Stats and global search, the no-setup AI Coach, AI Project Import, two-way Apple Calendar & Reminders sync, iCloud sync, all themes, and import/export. See the Features page for the full list.

How does Apple Calendar and Reminders sync work?

With your permission, the app reads and writes Apple’s native Calendar and Reminders. Tasks and events flow both directions: create a task in the planner and it appears in Reminders; complete it in Reminders and it’s done in your plan. Two-way EventKit sync is included.

I journal on paper — do I lose my streak?

No. If you keep a physical journal, just jot “physical journal” in the day’s journal entry and it still counts toward your journaling stats. The point is the reflection habit, wherever you do it.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Because your planner lives on-device, day-to-day planning works without a connection. AI features and iCloud sync require internet access.

What does it cost?

Every account starts with a 14-day free trial with full access. After that it’s a single plan with every feature included — $2.99/month or $19.99/year at founding prices (about 44% off with annual). No separate tiers, and iCloud sync is included for everyone.

Quick fixes

Common issues.

Calendar or Reminders aren’t syncing

Two-way sync relies on system permissions. On Mac, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars / Reminders; on iPhone or iPad, Settings → Privacy & Security. Confirm Intentful Planner is allowed, then quit and reopen the app so it can re-scan. (EventKit sync is included.)

The AI Coach isn’t responding

AI features need an internet connection. If you’re using your own API key, double-check it in Settings. If a request fails, the app falls back gracefully — try again in a moment or check your connection.

My data isn’t appearing on another device

iCloud sync requires that you’re signed into the same iCloud account on each device with iCloud Drive enabled. Give it a minute after first launch on a new device, and bring the app to the foreground to prompt a fresh sync.

How do I export or back up my data?

Open Settings → Data & Backup to export your planner to a portable JSON file, which you can re-import at any time. There’s also an “export a backup first” step built into Delete All Data.
